Casting creme gloss recommended on blonde highlights?

A couple of years ago I had about 8 chunky blonde highlights in my naturally dark brown hair (tacky I know haha!) And I chose a casting creme gloss semi permanent hair dye in a darker brown colour and it vanished my highlights completely and I was happy with it. Nowadays I've recently had lots of blonde highlights (half head) so my hairs currently dark blondeish with brown underneath, I want to go back to brown again without spending a fortune, will casting creme gloss work in the same way as it did last time, even though I have more highlights? Or will it be a complete disaster? Also, as it washes out, what do you reckon my colour would end up being at the very end?
